Fanfiction.net deleting M rated fics…

Okay so I heard from one of my friends StarGleekBelle and she found that there are authors on fanfiction.net who wrote M rated fics that are being deleted.

The reason for that is because they say that the smut fics don’t fit under the M rating. I’ve also been reading on Tumblr and on LiveJournal that they are being deleted and the authors not being informed about it.

What’s interesting to me is that when you have an account on fanfiction.net and you go through and add a new story, you have to ALWAYS go through the process of reading/skimming the guidelines of stories and also what ratings they offer.

They had, and still DO (I have checked recently) have a rating past M - they have one for MA which is actually the rating used for fics not suitable for children - or in most cases if you your story has smut. Here’s the big kicker here…

The rating - is not available. So when you go through the process of setting up the story and then get to the rating - the ratings only go to M. You don’t have the option to set it for MA.

So, how can they say that is part of their ratings, but not give you the option past M and now threaten to delete those stories for not properly rating them? I think they need to make that rating available (shouldn’t be hard, but that’s just me) or they need to be more specific about what should ratings they have AVAILABLE to use on their website.

Fics are being deleted for summaries not being G rated, for stories containing curse words and mature content that FF feel don’t fit the rating and in some cases accounts being completely deleted. Notifications are not being sent, nor chances to rectify offered.

What’s very interesting about that, is that when you go to add a new story and you CONSTANTLY have to go through the process of reading/skimming the guidelines and their ratings. THEY HAVE a rating that goes past M - it’s MA which should have been if your fic contains smut. BUT, here’s the kicker, you can’t set your fic for MA, it only goes to M. So they need to either make that rating available or do something to correct this because this is still apart of their ratings that they do not offer.

I just don’t understand why it isn’t socially acceptable to stay in bed all day long and watch lame romantic comedies and drink coffee and read books in your underwear. Whoever established all these “get a job, be successful” conventions really needs a serious beating. I didn’t sign the terms and conditions for this shit.
